MATCH PREVIEW

MAIN PREDICTION: HOME WIN

Wellington Phoenix have found form over the past month, lifting them inside the top six. Wellington are on a seven-game unbeaten run (four wins, three draws), with their latest success a 3-2 midweek win away at Western Sydney Wanderers.

The bottom-placed Central Coast Mariners remain winless this season, having lost their past nine league matches during which they’ve conceded 27 goals. They went down 5-2 to premiers Sydney FC in their last start and haven’t shown signs of arresting their slump.

Wellington have looked improved this season and it is hard to look past them against the struggling Mariners. I’m backing them in.

SECOND PREDICTION: FIRST TEAM TO SCORE – WELLINGTON PHOENIX

Wellington Phoenix have managed three wins (as well as one draw and two losses) from six home league games this season, netting ten goals along the way. Most notably they have won their past two home league games and are unbeaten at Westpac Stadium in their past three in league action (two wins, one draw). In their past four home league games, they have also scored first, so I’m backing that trend to continue.

HEAD TO HEAD

Wellington Phoenix have won only one of their last four league meetings with the Central Coast Mariners, losing two and drawing one.
