Vegalta’s back-up goalkeeper Kentaro Seki started the League Cup game in midweek as Vegalta rotated their team, but he was substituted on 61 minutes and should be considered doubtful for availability.Goalkeeper Takuto Hayashi continues to be absent for Sanfrecce but not reasons given.

Kazuki Oiwa scored five minutes after coming on for Vegalta last weekend in J1 but they were already 3-0 down at Kawasaki Frontale, and the scored stayed at 3-1. Frontale dismantled them last weekend with ease and they sit second-bottom of J1 having conceded 16 goals in their 10 league games. Three teams have worse defensive records but those teams have scored more than the nine goals that Vegalta have and it is obvious to me they will continue to struggle. A rerserve Vegalta side held a strong FC Tokyo side to a 0-0 draw in midweek League Cup play!

Sanfrecce arguably outplayed their visitors last weekend in J1 as they out shot Yokohama F.Marinos 15 to 4 but went down to a single goal. Sanfrecce rushed to the top of the table with their early season results but I could see that they were once again fortunate to be there and, like I predicted last year when they were well clear at the top, they were not going to hold on or win anything! Same again this season. They have now lost three league games running and have slipped to 7th and are heading down. Only six teams in J1 have scored less goals than them but their steady defence is helping them keep the stats reasonable – their six goals conceded in the league is second only to top team FC Tokyo. It took an own goal but Sanfrecce beat Guangzhou Evergrande 1-0 in their Asian Champions league game in midweek to qualify for the knockout stage.

Vegalta's struggles match Sanfrecce's current problems but Sanfrecce have individuals who can change the game, substitutes who can add to the team and that decent defence to fall back on. Sanfrecce to get the away win here.

Sanfrecce have three 1-0 wins in the league this season (and three 1-0 losses!). Only three of their 10 games have seen more than one total goal. I am expecting a 1-0 away win to be enough.

In J1 matches between these two teams last season each team won their away game.
