Yasutaka Yanagi is the only reported injury for Albirex.

A Yuki Kagawa goal was not enough to stop V-Varen going down 2-1 at Tokyo Verdy in J2 last weekend. V-Varen have improved results over the last five league matches with two wins and two draws, but lost to Tokyo Verdy last time out. They now sit in “no-man's land” in 12th position, four points from the play-off spots, but also four points from the relegation places. I did not expect them to be challenging for promotion or trying to avoid relegation this season, so they are exactly where I expected them to be. V-Varen went down 1-0 at Shonan Bellmare in League Cup action on Wednesday night.

1st-half goals from Ryoma Watanabe and Leonardo gave Albirex a 2-0 home win over Renofa Yamaguchi last weekend in J2. Albirex are on a six-game unbeaten run in the league but in there they have four draws as they struggle to win matches. Last weekend they broke a run of four draws with a win against lowly Renofa Yamaguchi but they showed nothing special in their display and were fortunate to win in my opinion. Their 15 goal haul so far this season is decent enough, but they have conceded 11 goals – more than all of the teams above them and their defence must improve if they are to challenge for promotion.

V-Varen's improvement and settling in should be enough to hold Albirex to a draw. I'd be tempted to give V-Varen a home win but they have struggled to get the points at home so far – three of their four wins have been away, and they have not won at home since opening day.

I feel that both teams will look for goals, with V-Varen opening up a little more due to being at home. This could be a 2-2, or even more goals. Albirex drew 3-3 away in early April, also, and 2-2 the week after, 67% of their league matches seem total goals two or more.

These two teams have never met in league play.
