MATCH PREVIEW

MAIN PREDICTION: HOME WIN

Toronto FC manager Craig Vanney needs to take some blame for his team’s 3-1 home league loss to the Houston Dynamo last weekend. Toronto had downed the visiting New York Red Bulls 3-1 at home in the league three days earlier for their second win in a row. However, instead of building on the momentum Vanney inexplicably made seven changes to his starting lineup - even though designated player Alejandro Pozuelo missed the league match with an injury. Predictably, TFC paid for the poor decision and remain at 29 points. Houston scored three goals in the first 57 minutes and Jozy Altidore scored a consolation marker for the home side in the 75th minute. The loss means Toronto falls out of a playoff spot the East but they are one of several teams in the thick of the race.

FC Cincinnati were 4-1 losers at home to DC United in the league in midweek and followed up with a 2-0 league defeat at home at the hands of the New England Revolution on the weekend. The visiting Revolution tallied in the ninth and 55th minutes and Cincinnati had no answer. The team has won only three of their last 18 league matches with 14 losses and a draw. They stay in the cellar in both the league and Eastern Conference with 17 points from five wins, two draws and 15 defeats while being outscored 51-21 in 22 league games.

If Toronto FC hopes to make the playoffs they have to beat the league’s bottom placed teams such as FC Cincinnati, especially at home. I believe the hosts bounce back with a win.

SECOND PREDICTION: FIRST HALF HAD – HOME WIN

FC Cincinnati has struggled in first halves in the league this year and have led just five times in 22 league matches at the break, including once in 12 away league contests. I expect Toronto FC to be ahead after 45 minutes.

HEAD TO HEAD

The teams will be meeting for the first time in league action.
