Vortis went down 4-0 at Albirex Niigata last weekend in J2. It was a freak result that saw them chasing the game after going a goal down and Albirex taking the chances that came. Vortis were not that bad and did not deserve a 4-0 thrashing. It was their third defeat in five league games but a closer look would show that the first defeat was against a Kashiwa Reysol on the way to the top of J2 and the second defeat came with 10 men for the whole of the 2nd half against high-flying Montedio Yamagata. The bigger picture shows three defeats in 11 league matches and just six points from a play-off place. Good management will ensure they do not dwell upon a heavy defeat.

Ventforet won 3-0 at home against Machida Zelvia last weekend in J2, with goals coming from Peter Utaka (2) and Tatsushi Koyanagi. They may be the opposite of their hosts today, having gained a big win last weekend but not really being on a good run of form in the bigger picture, with just three wins in 10 league games, and all of those against teams currently in the bottom seven. Their overall results have not been impressive recently and away from home they have not won in three attempts.

Vortis should be able to bounce back to winning, especially with the home advantage and incentive to forget last week's mess!

We have seen a total of 21 goals in Vortis's last five matches, with each of them having three goals or more in total. They have a decent home record all in, but at the other end they have just two clean sheets in 11 home matches, so expect a 2-1 or 3-1 here, I feel.

In J2 matches between these two teams last season each team won their away game while this season we saw Vortis win again away from home.
