Tochigi went down 2-0 at Montedio Yamagata last weekend in J2. They have now won just four league games all seaosn and just one in their last 16, as they sink towards J3. Already three points from safety, they meet HollyHock this week but then their next three matches are all against teams in the bottom four of J2 with them. A key point of the season and they may pick their battles and rotate the team a little in a low chance-of-winning game like HollyHock and then give their all over the next three. They will be desperate to win some of their next four or five to pull away from the bottom, but the pressure, especially at home, will be great.

HollyHock were surprised in a 2-1 home defeat by Tokyo Verdy last weekend in J2. Takaki Fukumitsu scored their only goal. Incredibly, since they have won just one of their last six league games, and only three of their last 12, they sit just just four points off 2nd place and are still poised to push for that second spot, but certainly for a top six finish. With six of their last 11 games drawn they really need to do just a little better to add more wins and consolidate a play-off place.

Surely HollyHock's overall class will tell against a dire Tochigi, for the away win.

Just nine league games featuring HollyHock this season have seen three or more goals, while Tochigi have been losing, but rarely big losses. With such an average run of form recently for HollyHock, they may well settle for the 1-0, I feel, which they have done five times this season already. Four of those 1-0 wins were away.

In J2 matches between these two teams last season HollyHock won away and drew at home, while earlier in 2019 HollyHock also won at home, 3-0.
