Stromsgodset are without the injured Nicholas Mickelson. In addition, Norwegian striker Marcus Pedersen is doubtful with a groin problem.

Viking’s Johnny Furdal and Rolf Daniel Vikstol are absent with serious injuries. Runar Hove is a doubt and Axel Oskar Andresson is out for the season with a serious knee injury.

The season started well for Stromsgodset with a 3-2 league win over Haugesund at Marienlyst in round one, but since then they haven’t won in five league games (two draws, three losses). Their latest disappointment was a 2-1 away league loss against Odd BK last weekend, where they conceded the winner in injury time. Stromsgodset have shipped at least two goals in each of their three home league games this season and overall, they have let in a worrying 11 goals in just six league matches. Amahl Pellegrino has been one of their shining stars in 2019; the striker has played in five of their six league games and has two goals to his name.

Viking could only draw 1-1 at home to Valerenga in their last league fixture. Chidera Ejuke gave the visitors the lead midway through the second half, but Tommy Hoiland levelled matters two minutes later. The striker has now scored in back-to-back league matches. A positive feature of Viking’s play this season has been their goalscoring, having found the net exactly twice in four of their first six league games. They now sit fifth in the table, but after a solid start they are winless in their last three league fixtures (one draw, two losses).

Viking have looked vulnerable defensively of late and they will find a trip to Drammen a particular tricky league contest to achieve a positive result. I will predict a home win.

Two of the last three league meetings between these sides at Marienlyst have contained five total goals or more. I think that could well be a reason to expect another high-scoring outcome in this one.

Viking have a dreadful record against Stromsgodset, having lost four and drawn two of the last six league meetings between the two.
