MATCH PREVIEW

MAIN PREDICTION: AWAY WIN

Sandhausen is unbeaten in four league matches after earning a hard-fought point at Bielefeld in a 1-1 draw. It was Sandhausen’s third draw in four league matches. Now Uwe Koschinat and team play at home for three of their four league matches before the winter break, with both league-leader Hamburg and current-third-place Stuttgart paying them December visits. With just eight goals conceded in eight home league matches and coming off the draw with Bielefeld, Sandhausen will have the confidence they can maintain their mid-table status through the end of 2019.

Stuttgart beat Karlsruher 3-0 last weekend. The derby win should help Tim Walter and team begin recovery from having lost four of the five league matches before hosting Karlsruher. With three of their next four league matches on the road, however, there remains some cause for concern. Stuttgart have managed just eight goals in their six away league matches, while conceding eleven. The pending return of Daniel Didavi should help boost an offense that has been inconsistent over the recent stretch.

Sandhausen can pose a lot of the same problems that Stuttgart failed to overcome at Osnabruck and Hamburg in the league. Stuttgart, though, played perhaps their best match of the season last weekend and looked very much like the promotion favorite they were assumed to be. Going with the pedigree here, looking for a Stuttgart win.

SECOND PREDICTION: FIRST TEAM TO SCORE - STUTTGART

Sandhausen has conceded first in three of their last four home league matches. If Stuttgart plays like they did last weekend, they’ll take the first lead Sunday.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

These clubs have met only twice in league play. Stuttgart beat Sandhausen 2-1 twice during the 2016-17 2. Bundesliga season.
