Cambuur are without Jordy van Deelen and Sam Hendriks. Goalkeeper Xavier Mous had to be replaced with Pieter Bos due to an injury last time out and is a doubt, although he is confident he will recover in time.

Almere City’s Niek Vossebelt is suspended and four players are sidelined. Moustapha Seck’s availability is unclear.

Suspended: None

Doubtful: Xavier Mous (thigh)

Injured/Unavailable: Jordy van Deelen (torn knee ligaments), Sam Hendriks (torn knee ligaments)

Almere City

Suspended: Niek Vossebelt

Doubtful: Moustapha Seck (unspecified)

Injured/Unavailable: Ilias Alhaft, Tim Receveur (both torn knee ligaments); Ricardo Kip (hamstring), Joshua Smits (unspecified)

Cambuur faced a difficult game in the final round of the regular season as they travelled to champions Twente. They were trailing 2-0 at half time, having conceded goals in the fifth and 37th minutes. However, the hosts became more sloppy and lacklustre as the league match evolved and couldn’t prevent Cambuur from scoring two late goals, in the 88th minute through Robbert Schilder, and in stoppage time, through Nigel Robertha. A third goal - which would have seen Cambuur move into eighth place - was ruled out for offside in stoppage time. The team finished the season well, winning three and drawing two of their last five league matches.

In contrast, Almere City ended the regular season in atrocious fashion. Prior to round 38, they were ranked fourth, but a disastrous 8-0 league loss away at Jong Ajax saw them slide into seventh. Although the defeat against Jong Ajax did not come as a surprise, the devastating margin did, with the side 4-0 behind and one man down at half time. Almere City were unable to hit the back of the net in the second half, too, and conceded four more goals. However, it is worth noting that the side have won seven of their 11 league games under Ole Tobiasen’s tutelage, drawing one and losing three.

Almere City’s confidence will have received a serious knock after their embarrassing performance against Jong Ajax in the league last time out. Cambuur, meanwhile, have won their last three home league matches straight. I can see the hosts winning this league encounter.

Cambuur have scored first in four of their last five home league matches. I expect to see a repeat of that here.

Almere City have won both regular league encounters this season. However, they were unable to beat Cambuur in league action last term, drawing at home and losing on the road.
