UEFA European Championship -- Russia VS Scotland

-----------------------------------

Russia: Six wins in a row ( Recent Form: W W W W W )

Russia is working on a great European Championship qualifying series and can hardly miss the European Championship next year. The Russians lost their first qualifying match in and against Belgium 3-1, but the five subsequent duels were won one by one. In particular, the handsome 1-2 win last month, visiting Scotland at Hampden Park, was crucial, as it left Sbornaya its last serious competitor offside. National coach Stanislav Cherchesov is therefore on the right track and has no reason to make drastic changes. Well-known names such as Aleksandr Golovin, Denis Cheryshev and Artem Dzyuba are also present again during this international match. The only downer is the injured Fyodor Smolov, which means that the goals will have to come mainly from Dzyuba. The striker of Zenit Sint-Petersburg was this European Championship qualification series five times accurate and thus increased his goal total to 21 hits in 38 international matches.

Scotland: Three defeats in a row ( Recent Form: W W L L L )

With only four group games to go, number five is looking at Scotland against a backlog of no less than eight points on number two in Russia, so the country can almost certainly write direct EC qualification on its stomach. However, The Tartan Army could still qualify for the European Championship through the back door, because on the basis of its performance in the Nations League they will soon be able to participate in the playoffs. The remaining four group matches are therefore refined practice duels in the run-up to those playoffs. National coach Steve Clarke will not be blind to the result on Thursday evening in Moscow, but wants to see improvement in the field game in particular. In last month's interland period, home defeats against Russia (1-2) and Belgium (0-4) were not very smooth to say the least. Clarke, however, will have to puzzle, as Grant Hanley, Liam Cooper, Ryan Jack and Oliver McBurnie had to cancel their injuries, while Scott McTominay is sitting out for a suspension. The rinsing is particularly thin at the forefront, so Lawrence Shankland can hope for a debut in the base. He scored on behalf of Dundee United this season in barely eight games already thirteen times in the Championship, the second level of Scotland.

THE BETTING VERDICT:

After all, the home country is the big favorite for me, so I see great value in the Russia -1 bet. Russia naturally wants that European Championship ticket as soon as possible in its pocket, while the very moderate Scotland is plagued by injuries. During the first mutual meeting in Glasgow, Russia was clearly the parent, and I expect that to be the case again on Thursday evening.
