Other than minor doubts over Saeid Ezatolahi and Reziuan Mirzov’s future, with both returning loanees not featuring last weekend, there are no injuries to concern Rostov. Vidar Kjartansson and Anton Saletros have both returned from their loans in Sweden.

Spartak Moscow have no new injury concerns, although there is a slight question mark over Aleksandr Selikhov’s involvement as he continues his long-term recovery from a troublesome fractured finger.

Rostov kicked off their league campaign with a solid 2-1 home win over FC Orenburg last weekend. It was their second win in their last three league games dating back to last season, having lost the other one, and although it meant they have now recorded just one clean sheet in their last six home league games they have also lost just once in their last ten league fixtures at home (five wins, four draws).

Spartak Moscow were made to sweat for their 1-0 league win at home to newly-promoted PFC Sochi, with their winner coming deep into added time last weekend. Away from home, they struggled to keep a tight defence in the league last season. Five of their last six away league games saw them conceded at least once, with three of the last five ending in defeat, along with two wins.

Rostov and Spartak Moscow are both going through mildly transitional phases due to senior players moving on, so expect the teams to cancel each other out and draw.

Despite their much-vaunted prestige and attacking reputation, Spartak Moscow only managed to score more than one goal in an away league match once in their final five on the road last season. Rostov have scored in each of their last six home league games, going back to last term, but only more than once on one occasion in the last four. Expect a low-scoring encounter.

Rostov have won four of their last five home league meetings against Spartak Moscow, drawing the fifth, whilst scoring at least two goals in all of those.
