Rosenborg’s Anders Trondsen is absent again with a thigh injury. Samuel Adegbenro is out with a foot problem. In addition, Vegar Hedenstad is doubtful with an ankle concern.

Stromsgodset have a fully fit squad to choose from ahead of this league game.

Rosenborg’s miserable start to the season continued as they suffered a disappointing 3-1 league loss away to Stabaek in Baerum. The Trondheim club have now lost two of their opening three league matches, drawing the other one. However, going back to last season, in league matches played at home they are very dependable, enjoying a ten-match undefeated run at Lerkendal Stadium with six wins and four draws. The team only lost one league game at home last term, too. However, given their bad start to the new campaign, a number of players will have to step up on recent performances, with many playing below par so far. The Trondheim club won this home league fixture 4-3 against Stromsgodset last season and that memory should help them guard against complicity at the back.

Stromsgodset will be disappointed by the manner in which they lost their last league match, a 3-2 home defeat against one of Norwegian top flight’s new boys, Mjondalen. It was the Drammen club who dominated possession, 63% to 37%, but despite that and a goal apiece from Lars Saetra and Mustafa Abdellaoue they left empty-handed. They have four points from a possible nine in league action so far, but stretching back to last year, Godset have failed to win in 13 of their last 16 league matches (six draws, seven losses), which is a particularly worrying sign as they head north to face the champions. Energetic midfielder Yacouba Sylla looks to be a great addition to the side and has already made an impact.

Rosenborg appear to have the mental edge over the Drammen club in recent years, with their last league loss against Stromsgodset dating back to October 2016. I expect that dominance to shine through once again with a big win for the Trondheim club.

This league fixture last season was a highly entertaining 4-3 win for Rosenborg. The teams also met four months later in the cup where five total goals were scored. I fully expect this match to be another high-scoring affair.

Stromsgodset have not won against Rosenborg in their previous four league encounters, losing on each occasion.
