Reading will be without the injured Saeid Ezatolahi and Tom McIntyre while Paul McShane and Jordan Obita remain doubts.

Nottingham Forest’s Michael Hefele, Michael Dawson, El Arbi Hillel Soudani and Juan Fuentes are sidelined while Lewis Grabban, Costel Pantilimon and Tobias Figueiredo are doubtful.

Injured/unavailable: Saeid Ezatolahi (foot), Tom McIntyre (eye)

Nottingham Forest

Suspended: None

Doubtful: Lewis Grabban (Achilles tendon), Costel Pantilimon (back), Tobias Figueiredo (leg)

Injured/unavailable: Michael Hefele (cruciate ligament), Michael Dawson (hamstring); El Arbi Hillel Soudani, Juan Fuentes (both knee)

Despite a brave showing, Reading were beaten 2-0 by English top-flight outfit Manchester Utd at Old Trafford in the third round of the FA Cup last week, extending their winless run to 11 games in all competitions with five draws and six losses. Since Jose Gomes arrived at the Madejski Stadium last month, the Royals have picked up only one point from three league matches, with their latest league outing ending in a 4-1 defeat at home against Swansea. Reading sit second from bottom, five points away from safety.

After going five league games without a win (three defeats, two draws), Nottingham Forest started 2019 with a crucial 4-2 win over league leaders Leeds at the City Ground. Unfortunately for Aitor Karanka and his side, they were beaten 2-0 by top-flight side Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the third round of the FA Cup last time out, exiting the competition. Forest have lost just five times in the league this term, which is the joint fewest with Leeds, Norwich, Middlesbrough and Birmingham.

Reading had one or two positive moments at Old Trafford last weekend, but their form in England's second division has been abysmal all season long. I can see Nottingham Forest piling more misery on the Royals this weekend – back the away win.

Nottingham Forest have kept clean sheets in each of their three away wins in the league this season, with two of those ending 2-0. Back another 2-0 victory for the Reds this weekend.

Only one of the last nine league meetings between the two has ended level, with Reading winning three and Nottingham Forest picking up five wins.
