Ben Pearson and Alan Browne returned to the starting XI at the weekend, but Preston still have a lengthy injury list to contend with. Question marks remain with regard to Brandon Barker and Tom Clarke’s availability while Thomas Barkhuizen, Andrew Hughes, Connor Ripley, Josh Harrop and Billy Bodin have been ruled out.

Kemar Roofe featured as a substitute for Leeds United last time out after overcoming a knee injury, but Barry Douglas is out for the season.

Suspended: None

Doubtful: Brandon Barker, Tom Clarke (both knocks)

Injured/unavailable: Thomas Barkhuizen (leg), Andrew Hughes (hamstring), Connor Ripley (ankle); Josh Harrop, Billy Bodin (both cruciate ligament)

Suspended: None

Doubtful: None

Injured/unavailable: Barry Douglas (knee)

After winning eight and drawing four of their previous 12 league fixtures, Preston have suffered back-to-back defeats in the English second division. Alex Neil’s men were beaten 2-1 away at relegation candidates Reading in round 39 before losing 1-0 at home against high-flying Sheff Utd at the weekend. Their mini slump has come at just the wrong time, with the team now trailing the playoff places by five points. However, the Lilywhites’ home form remains impressive, having lost only two of their last 15 league contests on their own turf (six wins, seven draws).

An unexpected 1-0 defeat against bottom-half side Birmingham at St. Andrew’s sent Leeds back into third place at the weekend as they were leapfrogged by Sheff Utd following the Blades’ win over Preston. Worryingly, United, who are trailing the top two by only one point, have lost two of their last three league fixtures while their only win during that time came thanks to a late 83rd minute goal from Pablo Hernandez against lowly Millwall. However, their league results away from Elland Road have been solid with only three teams boasting more points on their travels.

This is a tough match to predict with both sides playing below their usual standards of late. However, with an automatic promotion place on the line, I think Leeds could push themselves towards the three points here.

Preston have scored in six of their last seven league matches and three of their last four league defeats have ended 2-1. Three of Leeds’ last seven league wins have arrived by the same scoreline. Expect another 2-1 victory for the away side.

Leeds’ only defeat in their last eight league encounters with Preston was in April 2018. They have won five and drawn two of the remaining meetings.
