MATCH PREVIEW

MAIN PREDICTION: DRAW

The Philadelphia Union regained first place in the East with a late 3-2 league win in Minnesota last weekend. Auston Trusty netted the winner in the 86th minute and man of the match Andre Blake made several top class saves to earn the three points. The Union took the lead through a Jamiro Monteiro penalty kick in the 18th minute only to see the hosts draw level ten minutes later. Haris Medunjanin put Philadelphia ahead again just before half time but Minnesota equalized in the 77th minute setting the stage for Trusty's heroics. It was the first win for the Union in four league games following a loss and two draws. They now have 28 points from eight wins, four draws and four defeats with 28 goals for and 18 against.

The New York Red Bulls remained hot in the league with a decisive 4-0 thumping over visiting Real Salt Lake last weekend. The result extends their unbeaten string to five league games at four wins and a draw, along with two straight clean sheets and three overall in that span. They have also found their scoring touch by outscoring their opposition 12-3 during the streak. All of the scoring against Real Salt Lake came between the 58th and 83rd minutes. Real netted an own goal to give the Red Bulls the lead and they then got goals from Daniel Royer, Michael Amir Murillo and Omar Fernandez to seal the deal with goalkeeper Luis Robles recording the clean sheet. The Red Bulls now have 24 points on the season and have outscored the opposition 25-16 in the league.

Both teams are playing well with the Philadelphia Union leading the league and the New York Red Bulls just four points behind them. The Union has struggled with the Red Bulls over the past few seasons, losing two and drawing two of their four most recent league encounters, but since they are at home I believe they should earn a draw.

SECOND PREDICTION: HILO – LOW

The New York Red Bulls have scored just eight goals in their six away league games. Furthermore, the sides have combined for only three total goals in their last four league meetings. I think the chances of fewer than three total goals in this league game are good.

HEAD TO HEAD

The New York Red Bulls drew 0-0 at home and won 1-0 away in the league last season.
