After getting his third yellow card last round, Palmeiras midfielder Felipe Melo got suspended and will miss this match.

On the other side of the pitch, Vasco da Gama coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo will have his entire squad available with striker Rossi back from suspension.

Palmeiras are still leading the league but since the Brasileiro returned after the Copa America break, they are still winless – 1-1 away to Sao Paulo and 2-0 away to Ceara – and that ended their point advantage over the second place. Now Santos have the same number of points as them and are only behind because of better goal difference.

Before that they had the best attack in the league but now that they only scored once in these last two league matches they fell behind in the number of goals scored and not only saw Flamengo overtake the first placed in the criteria, but also a couple of other teams get close to them, but that’s not the case of Vasco da Gama, who come from a 2-1 home win in the derby against Fluminense, which was enough to keep them out of the relegation zone.

The visitors have one of the weakest defenses in the league, allowing their opponents to score 17 times so far, which is the worst number amongst the teams placed outside the relegation zone, and with that kind of defending I don’t see them being able to stop Palmeiras, who will get the home win.

Apart from their last two matches in the league – both played as visitors – Palmeiras scored first in all their other games in the Brasileiro, which includes all their home matches, and that’s why I think it will happen again.

Palmeiras didn’t lose any of their last four league matches to Vasco da Gama – three wins and one draw – and conceded only once in these four matches.
