MATCH PREVIEW

MAIN PREDICTION: HOME WIN

Martin O’Neill’s Nottingham Forest still have their eyes set on the top six. Before a 3-0 win against Hull City at the City Ground at the weekend, Forest beat rivals Derby 1-0 in their previous home league outing in late February, but they also lost 2-0 away at Stoke in between. Ahead of this big midweek clash with Aston Villa, the Reds find themselves only two points off the playoffs. They have been good at home of late, picking up 12 points from their last four.

Aston Villa won 1-0 against Second City rivals Birmingham at St Andrew’s at the weekend. That result has left the Villans in ninth position in the table. Villa have had a mixed bag of results under Dean Smith with two wins, three draws and two losses in their last seven league matches, but the Midlands outfit still have a slim chance of making the playoffs.

On paper, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa are pretty evenly matched. However, Forest, who have performed well at home in recent league games, are the favourites. I’ll be backing a home win in this one.

SECOND PREDICTION: FIRST TEAM TO SCORE – NOTTINGHAM FOREST

Nottingham Forest have taken the first lead in 100% of their 13 league wins this season. Put your money on the hosts to open the scoring here.

HEAD TO HEAD

Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest played out a ten-goal thriller at Villa Park back in November, with the league encounter ending in a 5-5 draw. Meanwhile, Forest have won just one of the last five league meetings in the second division, losing two and drawing two.
