MATCH PREVIEW
MAIN PREDICTION: HOME WIN
Newell’s Old Boys have been producing a poor campaign, but they do at least remain unbeaten under boss Hector Bidoglio, having registered two wins and two draws in their first four league matches under his tutelage. The side drew 0-0 at Union Santa Fe in an entertaining league game last weekend. La Lepra are now on 20 points in the Argentinian top flight and will need to secure more points if they want to avoid being sucked into the fight against relegation next season.
Rosario Central arrive to this city derby on the back of a scoreless home draw with Aldosivi, which represented their first point in three matches in the Argentinian top flight. Even though they still have a league game in hand, El Canalla’s campaign has been very disappointing so far, having collected only 19 points. To make matters worse, they are winless in their last seven away league matches, earning only two points during that spell and losing the last four league games consecutively.
A derby is always hard to predict, but Newell’s Old Boys seem to have received a genuine boost under their new coach while they are also unbeaten in their last six home league matches, having won four and drawn two of them. Rosario Central have been poor on their travels and I can't see them returning with anything here. This looks like a home win.
SECOND PREDICTION: FIRST TEAM TO SCORE – NEWELL’S OLD BOYS
Newell’s Old Boys have scored first in six of their last seven home league matches. This trend is likely to continue this weekend.
HEAD TO HEAD
Rosario Central are experiencing a great run in the Rosario derby, having lost only one of the last 13 league meetings, winning seven and drawing five. Newell's Old Boys' only victory during that time took place in October 2016.
