MATCH PREVIEW

MAIN PREDICTION: DRAW

The New York Red Bulls fought tooth and nail away against Atlanta Utd last weekend to earn a 3-3 league draw. They fell behind after ten minutes only to take the lead with goals by Daniel Royer and Brian White in the 37th and 60th minutes. Atlanta pulled level in the 79th minute via a penalty kick and looked like they had snatched three points with a goal in injury time. However, New York Red Bulls substitute Bradley Wright-Phillips tied things up just seconds later with his second league goal of the season after missing out with an injury. The Red Bulls have allowed seven goals in the past two league matches as they were trounced 4-0 in Houston in midweek. They have five wins, two draws and two losses in their last nine league contests. Their 28 points puts them in a top seven playoff spot in the East but there is plenty of work to do to remain there.

New York City saw their 12-game league unbeaten streak come to an unexpected end last weekend at seven wins and five ties as they lost at home for the first time in the league this season, via a 1-0 scoreline to the Portland Timbers. They conceded in the 14th minute and suffered just their second league defeat of the campaign and the first since late March. The result leaves them with 29 points from seven wins, eight draws and two defeats with 30 goals scored and 20 allowed.

The New York Red Bulls' defence has been leaky in the last two league games and New York City is riding a six-match unbeaten streak on the road in league action with three wins and three draws. I have a feeling this will be a close league game though since just one point separates the teams in the standings and it looks like a draw to me.

SECOND PREDICTION: HILO – LOW

Three of the last four league meetings between these sides have resulted in two total goals or fewer. I think this will be a relatively low-scoring league game with fewer than three total goals in it, too.

HEAD TO HEAD

The teams each had a win, loss and draw in their three league meetings in 2018.
