MATCH PREVIEW

MAIN PREDICTION: HOME WIN

New York City took a huge three points last weekend when they doubled the Philadelphia Union 4-2 at home in league action, they remained in the Big Apple in midweek where they hosted the Seattle Sounders at Yankee Stadium and finished the league match with a 3-0 victory to extend their unbeaten streak to 12 league games at seven wins and five draws. The latest result gives New York 29 of a possible 48 points and they should take one of the Eastern Conference playoff spots this season.

The Portland Timbers hosted FC Dallas in league action last weekend and rode a 42nd minute goal by man of the match Brian Fernandez to a 1-0 victory as goalkeeper Steve Clark posted only his second clean sheet of the season. Portland are now back on the road this weekend where they have four wins, two draws and seven defeats in league action while being outscored 25-18. The league win over FC Dallas gives them 20 of 48 points on the season and they are within striking distance of a Western Conference playoff spot.

With New York City being so strong at home in the league this year I expect them to grind out a victory even though the Portland Timbers have lost just once in their four league meetings with New York City and have two league wins at Yankee Stadium.

SECOND PREDICTION: HILO – LOW

The teams have met just four times in league action and combined for eight total goals for two per league game. I expect fewer than three total goals in this clash, too.

HEAD TO HEAD

The Portland Timbers won last year's league meeting 3-0 at home. They have three wins and a loss against New York City in the league.
