The New England Revolution were pummelled 6-1 in Philadelphia in the league last weekend and then tried to bounce back in their midweek league match away against the Chicago Fire. They left the Windy City with a 5-0 loss and have now been outscored 30-11 in the league this year. The result sees New England with just eight points this year from two wins, two draws and eight losses in league action. Their immediate goal is to stay out of the cellar in the Eastern Conference rather than gunning for a playoff spot. They have also struggled on their own turf with two wins and four defeats in the league, with only three goals scored and ten allowed.

It may be too early to say the San Jose Earthquakes have turned their season around but they are in fine form at the moment. They blanked FC Cincinnati 1-0 at home in the league last weekend with Nick Lima scoring the goal in the 22nd minute and goalkeeper Mario Vega posting the clean sheet. The San Jose Earthquakes managed the win even though Cristian Espinoza was sent off in the 51st minute with his second yellow card. After starting the season with five losses and only one win in their first six league matches, they are now unbeaten in the past four league fixtures with two wins and two draws, as well as two straight clean sheets. The team has 11 points and is fighting for a playoff spot in the West.

With the San Jose Earthquakes in good form and the New England Revolution having a hard time at home I feel the visitors will win their first away league match of the season this weekend.

The New England Revolution have scored only three times in their six home league matches while the San Jose Earthquakes have netted four goals in their four away league contests. A low-scoring affair looks likely.

The teams drew 2-2 in San Jose in league action last season. The New England Revolution is unbeaten in the last six league meetings with three straight wins followed by three straight draws.
