Napoli: Wants to continue in the Champions League ( Recent Form: L L W L W )

Napoli was disappointed when last season it was divided into a group with runner-up Liverpool and the wealthy Paris Saint-Germain. It could hardly have been more exciting in the group, as Liverpool and Napoli both finished in nine points, with a goal difference of +2. The mutual result was also the same, as both teams won their home game with 1-0. Because of this, the number of goals scored was decisive: Liverpool scored 9 and gave up 7, while the Neapolitans scored only 7 times, but also gave up five. With this minute difference, Liverpool went on with PSG and eventually even won the cup. In Napoli they often think back to the division of points against Red Star Belgrade on the first round of last season. As both Liverpool and Napoli lost points on a visit to the Serviers, both teams ended up under PSG. The French would have been interested in mutual results. So this season another attempt for Italy's number two, who finished no less than ten points above number three Atalanta last year. The draw is a lot easier this year, because outside Liverpool, Salzburg and Genk are the opponents instead of PSG and Red Star. This makes reaching the next round a simpler task. In addition to hibernation in the champion ball, coach Carlo Ancelotti's team wants to make a shot at the Italian title to break the hegemony of Juventus. With Hirving Lozano as the most important purchase, the team immediately took a huge blow on the second round. In Turin, 4-3 was lost (thanks to an own goal from Kalidou Koulibaly in the last minute), meaning that Napoli had to make up for a three point deficit in the title race.

Liverpool: Title defender ( Recent Form: D W W W W )

Liverpool barely managed to reach the knockout phase last season at the expense of Napoli. This proved to be the prelude to a season approaching perfection: the Champions League was won and a record number of points were achieved in the Premier League, which in all seasons in which the City of Guardiola did not participate would have been enough for the title. This year, Jurgen Klopp faces the seemingly impossible task of equalizing last season's performance. That this task is nevertheless not impossible was demonstrated by the strong seasonal start of the Reds. The selection remained intact except for a few superfluous players and the only players for whom a transfer fee was paid was Sepp van den Berg of PEC Zwolle. The first five competition matches produced just as many victories, which means we can find Liverpool with 15 points at the top of the Premier League. Because Mancehster City lost to Norwich last weekend and had already played a draw against Tottenham, the lead over the biggest competitor is already five points mid-September. By the way, Klopp cannot call on Napoli next Tuesday for the injured trio of Alisson, Clyne and Keita. Of these, goalkeeper Alisson is the biggest loss. The Spanish goalie Adrian Lopez, who came over from West Ham, is doing well, but is not a world class like his Brazilian colleague.

THE BETTING VERDICT:

After all, Napoli is very strong in-house and managed to beat Liverpool in Naples last year. I think that both teams do not miss each other very much and because both teams will decide for themselves who will be first and who will be second, I think that both Ancelotti and Klopp can live with a draw. I find the odds for a draw very attractive and in my eyes worth a little bet.
