Australia A-League -- Melbourne Victory VS Newcastle Jets

Livescore | Match Prediction & Tips| Asian Handicap Odds|Line-ups& H2H Stats

Melbourne Victory will again be without import duo Keisuke Honda and Georg Niedermeier, while Jose Baena may return to the starting XI following injury.

The Newcastle Jets will be without Venezuela international Ronald Vargas following his red card in the 2-1 loss to Melbourne City.

Melbourne Victory

Suspended: None

Doubtful: None

Injured/unavailable: Jai Ingham (quad), Keisuke Honda (hamstring), Georg Niedermeier (ankle), Nicholas Ansell (hamstring)

Newcastle Jets

Suspended: Ronald Vargas

Doubtful: None

Injured/unavailable: Glen Moss (quad), Joseph Champness (foot)

Melbourne Victory have stumbled in recent weeks, managing only one win, two draws and one loss from their past four league fixtures, amid Keisuke Honda’s injury-enforced absence. They are coming off a 2-0 loss away at Adelaide Utd, but their recent four-game run has only included one league match at home and a return to AAMI Park should suit Victory in this league fixture.

The seventh-placed Newcastle Jets are winless in their past three league matches, having drawn 2-2 with Brisbane Roar and lost 2-1 to both Adelaide Utd and Melbourne City. Newcastle have managed two of their three league wins away from home this season, but that is from six league matches (along with one draw and three losses), so it is hardly an imposing record.

I’m backing Melbourne Victory upon their return to home comforts.

Melbourne Victory have scored 24 goals compared to the Newcastle Jets' 13 this season. 13 of Victory’s goals have come in the first half while four of the Jets’ strikes have come in the opening 45. With that in mind, I’ll back Victory to score first.

Melbourne Victory have won their past two league clashes 1-0, both in Newcastle, while they have also saluted in the past three league encounters against the Newcastle Jets in Melbourne.
