JEF have sent no updates on Andrew Kumagai, so still expect him to be doubtful, while they also have lost Kleber and Yuto Sato to training injuries, they both missed the game last weekend.

Ryukyu report no injuries and have no suspensions.

Doubtful: Andrew Kumagai. Kleber, Yuto Sato.

Yusuke Chakima came on as a 64th minute substitute to return from injury and then scored the 80th minute winning free kick to give JEF an away win at Avispa Fukuoka last weekend. Two games back this team were fortunate to get a point from Kyoto Sanga and in this one they had to settle for a late free kick. The win last week may paper over the cracks of this team's problems but, once again they seem likely to concede at any minute but their hosts last week – Avispa Fukuoka – are one team that seem to have bigger problems.

Ryukyu were held to a 2-2 home draw last weekend against Renofa Yamaguchi, with Koji Suzuki notching another two goals! Still unbeaten in the league after six games – something that very few people expected to see – they sit atop J2 on goals scored, having the same goal difference as Mito HollyHock. They have scored 14 goals in total but have also conceded eight – only three teams in J2 have conceded more. Expect goals in their games but also expect a canny manager to begin to improve the defence. This is a team with nothing to lose and they seem to be relaxed and enjoying football. At the moment they have no licence for a J1 promotion, and will be happy, in my opinion, with consolidating a J2 place for 2020. They are well on the way to safety.

The inconsistent JEF defence will face problems against free-scoring Ryukyu who create chances and then take them. JEF may well score, though even that I feel may be beyond them as Ryukyu make improvements at the back with more experience. An away win with a few goals in the game.

With JEF United, anything is possible in the goals stakes and already they have conceded 11 – the second-highest in J2. Their visitors meanwhile have scored 14. The 12 games featuring these two teams this year so far have seen 39 goals – over three per game. Expect similar today.

These two have never met in league play.
