Hull City came from behind to beat relegation-threatened Reading 3-1 at home in their most recent league outing. They have now booked back-to-back wins in the league after picking up all three points against bottom-of-the-league Ipswich in the previous round. Despite sitting in 11th, a playoff place is still within grasp for the East Yorkshire club, who are adrift of the top six by only five points with six league matches left to go.

A 5-2 win over strugglers Bolton in March has been Wigan’s only league success in the past two months, with the side from Greater Manchester drawing six and losing three of their other nine league outings during that time. A Nathan Byrne goal in injury time secured a point in their 2-2 league draw away at sixth-placed Bristol City last time out. Although they are unbeaten in their last three league matches (one win, two draws), Athletic are only two points above the drop zone and are in dire need of points.

Hull City have won two, drawn one and lost two of their last five league outings, but at home they have been impossible to beat since late November, winning eight and drawing three of their last 11 home league fixtures. In contrast, Wigan have the league’s worst away record with a mere seven points from their 20 league matches on the road. A home win seems the most likely choice here.

Hull City have scored an impressive 27 goals in their last ten home league matches, with only three of those contests featuring fewer than three total goals. Meanwhile, Wigan’s last four away league games have also had three or more total goals. Expect another high-scoring affair.

Hull City lost their only league encounter against Wigan in the last nine years 2-1 away back in September.
