Germany: Three wins without conceding ( Recent Form: D W W W W )

Two-time world champion Germany is also one of the favorites this summer to crown itself Weltmeister in France. The country managed to win all its group duels, although the real fireworks with economical 1-0 wins over China and Spain and a 4-0 win over weak South Africa were not yet. Germany is, however, above all very solid, and thanks to its group profit it is on the favorable side of the knockout schedule. Co-title candidates such as France and the United States are on the other side of the schedule, so Germany may only come across them in the final. Anyway, it is not nearly there yet. Despite the good results and the strong rear-guard, there is some concern about the somewhat faltering front-guard. This is largely due to the injury oath of playmaker Dzsenifer Marozsan, the absolute star at Die Nationalelf. Whether Marozsan will be there again against Nigeria is still a question. "We look at it day by day," said Olympique Lyon. Even without Marozsan, Germany is the clear favorite on Saturday afternoon. I can imagine that national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg would rather not take a risk with her star player, since a much heavier opponent is waiting in the quarterfinals with Sweden or Canada.

Nigeria: Writes history ( Recent Form: D D L W L )

For Nigeria the World Cup can no longer be broken, because for the first time in history the country managed to reach the group stage of the World Cup. Nigeria had to bite their nails until the very last moment, but partly because Chile missed a goal in its last group match against Thailand, The Super Falcons ranked as one of the best numbers three among the last sixteen participants of the World Cup. Nigeria then went dancing, hopping, and jumping through the hotel. Nigeria has managed to survive the group phase with the necessary luck, but after Saturday afternoon the African ladies are most likely allowed to go home. In three group matches, the country only managed to beat South Korea (2-0) after it suffered a major loss against Norway earlier in its opening game (3-0). In the last group match against host country France, Nigeria did come out well, though a taken penalty kicked them in the head. "My players are real heroines," said national coach Thomas Dennerby. "Of course I am disappointed with the result, but the girls fought hard." Defensively, Nigeria did make it pretty difficult for France, although the Nigerian ladies did not get a single shot through the posts during the entire match. Also against Germany the country will undoubtedly try to park the bus again.

THE BETTING VERDICT:

After all, Germany is the logical favorite and will probably win this match easily, but I don't expect a goal scoring. The German ladies will probably have to make it again on Saturday afternoon without Marozsan, the attacking pivot of the team. In addition, Nigeria again showed against France that it can defend itself nicely, as it showed in the small defeats against the United States (0-1) and Australia (2-0) prior to the World Cup. I also foresee such results now, so I think the bet below 3.25 goals is perfectly playable.
