Fluminense have four players suspended for this match, but at least midfielders Ganso and Airton are coming back to the team this weekend.

As for Sao Paulo, they already had winger Everton back to the team last round, after he recovered from an injury.

Suspended: Bruno Silva, Digao, Frazan, Rodolfo (sports court)

Doubtful: None

Injured/unavailable: Leo Santos (knee) and Mascarenhas (knee)

Sao Paulo

Suspended: Gonzalo Carneiro (sports court)

Doubtful: None

Injured/unavailable: Joao Rojas (knee), Liziero (ankle), Pablo (ankle)

After opening the score in the away derby against Vasco da Gama last weekend in what seemed like it was going to be an easy win, Fluminense lost two players to red cards – both of them center backs – and saw the hosts take the lead to win the game 2-1, which got Fluminense into the relegation zone by the end of the weekend with one of the worst defenses in the league having allowed their opponents to score 19 times so far. At home they conceded only four times in five league matches even keeping a clean sheet in the derby against Flamengo.

Sao Paulo just beat Chapecoense 4-0 last Monday and scored in all of their last three league matches, although that was the first time they scored more than once since the second round, back in May.

The 4-0 win ended Sao Paulo’s winless run that lasted for six matches in the league but to be honest they drew five of those six matches, which is why even though they haven’t got that many wins they are placed fifth. However, just like it happened in their last three away matches, we won’t see them score too much, especially against a defense that does well when playing at home, and based on Sao Paulo’s recent record we can expect a draw here.

Only one of the five matches Fluminense played at home in the league this year ended with three or more total goals, which is the same number of games Sao Paulo played as visitors in league game and also had a high score – one out of five. So I don’t see another outcome in the end of the match here other than a low score.

It’s been almost three years since the last time Sao Paulo beat Fluminense. It happened in 2016, when they were the visitors and left the match with a 2-1 win.
