Swedish Allsvenskan -- Falkenberg VS Orebro

Livescore | Match Prediction & Tips| Asian Handicap Odds|Line-ups& H2H Stats

Newly-promoted Falkenbergs have one of the smallest budgets in the league, but they have brought in striker Kirill Pogrebnyak from the Russian second tier, John Chibuike from the Kazakhstani top flight and central defender Marcus Mathisen from second-tier side Halmstad to strengthen the squad.

Orebro have lost key players Kennedy Igboananike, Victor Skold and Nahir Besara. They have been replaced by Viktor Prodell from Elfsborg, Martin Broberg from Norwegian side Odds BK and Johan Bertilsson from Dalkurd.

Falkenbergs came second with 59 points from 30 league matches in Sweden’s second division last season and gained automatic promotion together with Helsingborgs. That means that they are back after being relegated in 2016. They achieved promotion with a low budget and are continuing with pretty much the same squad, apart from a few additions, most notably Kirill Pogrebnyak, the brother of former Fulham and Reading striker Pavel. The team are expected to go straight back down and will have a tough start against Orebro.

Orebro had a pretty solid 2018 in the league. Coach Axel Kjall has been promoted and is now also responsible for the transfers. After losing the attacking trio of Kennedy Igboananike, Nahir Besara and Victor Skold ahead of the new campaign, the focus has been on finding new attacking talent. Viktor Prodell from Elfsborg, who has been brought in, is a solid striker who adds speed up front while new recruits Martin Broberg and Johan Bertilsson are decent attacking midfielders who will improve the side’s width and creativity. Kjall has some interesting ideas and is good at developing players but the Orebro squad looks thinner than last season. They ended last year in a comfortable mid-table position in ninth with 35 points and were equally average on the road (four wins, four draws, seven losses)

Orebro will be looking to build on last season’s mid-table finish. Falkenbergs arguably have the weakest squad in Sweden’s top flight, but they will hope that Orebro are rusty. Nevertheless, I’m going with an away win.

Orebro averaged just over one goal per league game last season and although Falkenbergs were efficient up front back in the second division last season, they don’t really have the players to score freely in the top flight. A low-scoring season opener is likely.

There have been four wins and only one loss for Orebro in the last five league meetings with Falkenbergs.
