TEAM NEWS

Tokyo will have Jang Hyun-soo back after his two-game suspension for an off-the-ball incident against Sagan Tosu in the Levain Cup two weeks ago. Also returning to Japan are Kyosuke Tagawa and Taichi Hara from Japan Under-20 dury, although Tagawa has a hamstring problem. Takefusa Kubo is now away with the Japan national team at Copa America, while he is also out of contract and may not return to the team after that. Kensuke Nagai picked up a shoulder injury in his Japan appearance, he is being diagnosed.

Vissel will be missing Sergi Samper to suspension for collecting too many yellow cards, and Dankler who was red carded last week for a handball on the goal line (one game, also). Yuta Goke and Yuki Kobayashi will be back from Japan Under-20 duty. Kyogo Furuhashi has been in limited training. Off the field Vissel manager Takayuki Yoshida stepped down as new manager Thorsten Fink was announced.

MATCH PREVIEW

MAIN PREDICTION: AWAY WIN

Tokyo won 3-1 at home to title-challengers Oita Trinita before the international break in J1, with Takefusa Kubo scoring two goals. With Kubo missing (perhaps for good as he considers his future) and Nagai a possible injury absence, as well as the two Under-22 players, suddenly Tokyo have an injury crisis, it seems. At least they bounced back to winning ways after their unbeaten season had ended the week before. It will be interesting to see if Tokyo can sustain the pace and keep the top spot as teams like Kawasaki Frontale and Kashima Antlers improve and approach the top. The top team is starting to feel the pressure, I feel.

Vissel were ahead 1-0 against Jubilo Iwata before the international break in J1 until a 93rd minute PK for Jubilo saved the home team a point. The PK was saved by followed up to score. With a win and a draw that was so close to a win in their last two matches, Vissel are turning it around. Now they have a new manager, too, one would presume the “new manager surge” will help them, too, in the short term, though it remains to be seen if Thorsten Fink is the right man in the long run. Andres Iniesta has been sparingly used to keep him fit for certain games and with the break one would hope he gets to start this one. If Furuhashi is also available, Vissel may well surprise us and win this one!

Two unbeaten matches, a break for their older and injured players to get fitter – both Ryo Hatsuse and So Fujitani returned in the draw at Jubilo – and a new manager. This is a key match for Vissel Kobe that could see them start a new chapter and rise up the table, or see them hit bottom after this game. I feel they can win this!

SECOND PREDICTION: HILO - HIGH

A high number of goals may be the best bet with the already quite potent Tokyo attack (21 goals in fourteen league games) adding to the game in which Vissel (five goals in last two games) will also be close to full strength and able to score, I feel.

HEAD TO HEAD

In J1 matches between these two teams last season Tokyo won at home and drew away.
