Sporting Kansas City expects Jaylin Lindsey, Erik Hurtado, Rodney Wallace and Roger Espinoza to miss this league match while Jimmy Medranda, Graham Zusi, Johnny Russell and Gianluca Busio are questionable along with Botond Barath.

Chicago Fire has listed Johan Kappelhof as a question mark while Djordje Mihailovic is on international duty.

Sporting Kansas City

Doubtful: Gianluca Busio (head), Jimmy Medranda (hamstring), Graham Zusi (abductor), Johnny Russell (leg), Botond Barath (chest)

Injured/unavailable: Jaylin Lindsey, Erik Hurtado (both knee); Rodney Wallace (hip), Roger Espinoza (leg)

Chicago Fire

Suspended: None

Doubtful: Johan Kappelhof (thigh)

Injured/unavailable: Djordje Mihailovic (international duty)

Sporting Kansas City failed to score away in the league last weekend and were dealt a 2-0 loss by Real Salt Lake. They then hosted league-leading Los Angeles FC and came out of the tussle with a 5-1 league defeat. They have now lost three of their past eight league matches with two wins and three draws. Sporting Kansas has accumulated 19 out of a possible 54 league points in 2019 with just four wins, seven draws and seven losses and they need to string a few wins together if they hope to reach the playoffs in the Western Conference.

The Chicago Fire were downed 3-1 away by the New York Red Bulls in the league last weekend to remain winless in their past six league games at three losses and three draws. They then hosted Atlanta Utd in midweek in an attempt to change their fortunes and came out of the league match with a 5-1 triumph. The result gives the Fire 22 points on the season and they still have some work ahead of them if they hope to reach the top seven in the East and make the postseason. The team is the owner of the worst away record in the league at three draws and six losses while being outscored 18-8.

Sporting Kansas City is a mediocre home side, but the Chicago Fire has failed to win an away league match in the league this year. I think the hosts should do just enough to take three points.

The teams have combined for 12 total goals in the last two league meetings for an average of six total goals. In addition, 56% of the Chicago Fire's away league games have featured three or more total goals this year along with 67% of Sporting Kansas City's home league matches. I like the chances of at least three total goals in this showdown.

Sporting Kansas City won last year's league meeting 4-3 in Chicago and they have four wins, a draw and a loss in the last six league encounters.
