Djurgardens have brought in a new manager in Kim Bergstrand and he has signed midfielder Astrit Ajdarevic from Greek side AEK Athens and striker Mohamed Buya Turay from Belgian club Sint-Truiden.

Sundsvall has brought in midfielder Tobias Eriksson from Kalmar and left back Pa Konate from Italian team SPAL. Striker Omar Eddhari arrives from Djurgardens on a free transfer.

Djurgardens have signed manager Kim Bergstrand from Sirius in a bid to improve the team. Last year they won the cup, but their league form was disappointing and they only finished in seventh place, ten points below the top three. However, new recruits Astrit Ajdarevic in midfield and Mohamed Buya Toyray up front are class signings while Per Kristian Bratveit has been brought in as the new number one goalkeeper and Fonn Witry as right back. Both are young Norwegian players but have plenty of experience already. The team look interesting but probably need time to gel. They were knocked out of the Swedish cup by Hacken in extra time in the semi-final, after a 2-2 draw in regular time.

Sundsvall ended up in eighth last year, their highest ever finish in the league. Spanish assistant manager Ferran Sibilia has left the club to help Goteborg. He had been credited with the improvements last year together with manager Joel Cedergren and it remains to be seen how losing him will affect the team. However, they have made some fine signings in Pa Konate, Omar Eddhari and Tobias Eriksson, and together with David Batanero and Linus Hallenius who impressed last year they have a solid starting XI.

Djurgardens qualified for the group stage of the Swedish cup and progressed to the semifinal which means that they have already played five competitive games this year. That will be an advantage against Sundsvall who were knocked out in the preliminaries last year. I predict a home win.

More than half of Djurgardens’ 15 home league matches were level at half time last year (eight), while Sundsvall registered 11 first-half draws overall last season. I expect to see a similar result here after 45 minutes.

Both league games ended 1-1 last season.
