Derby’s Martyn Waghorn, Duane Holmes, Ashley Cole, Andy King and Craig Bryson are all battling to be fit for this weekend’s playoff semi-final first leg. The injured Craig Forsyth and Curtis Davies are sidelined.

Ezgjan Alioski and Barry Douglas are out with long-term injuries for Leeds.

Injured/unavailable: Ezgjan Alioski (meniscus), Barry Douglas (medial collateral ligament)

Derby booked their place in the playoffs with an excellent 3-1 home league win over West Bromwich last weekend. With Middlesbrough beating Rotherham 2-1, those three points for the Rams proved to be vital in the battle for sixth place. Frank Lampard’s men head into the playoffs in superb form, as the Midlands outfit have picked up four wins and two draws from their last six league fixtures.

In contrast, Leeds ended their league campaign in poor fashion. Marcelo Bielsa’s boys lost three and drew one of their last four league games, whilst winning only two of seven (one draw, four losses). Last weekend, the Yorkshire club lost 3-2 at relegated Ipswich in the league. In the end, the Whites finished six points adrift of the automatic promotion places. Even though Leeds have lost three and won only one of the their past four league matches on the road, United accumulated a solid 37 points on their travels in league action.

Only Norwich and Sheff Utd (both with 49), who both gained promotion, picked up more home league points than Derby (46) this season. Leeds have had their problems away from home in the league in recent weeks, so I fancy the hosts to edge this one at Pride Park.

Derby have scored the first goal in each of their last four league fixtures at home, with all four ending in wins. Put some money on the home team to open the scoring in this crucial first leg.

Leeds did a league double over Derby this season, winning 4-1 at Pride Park before sealing a 2-0 victory at Elland Road.
