Defensa y Justicia to claim third consecutive home victory
Defensa y Justicia’s defensive midfielder Andres Cubas will miss at least one more game due to his muscle problem.
Belgrano centre back Cristian Lema collected his fifth yellow card against Patronato last time out and is suspended. Maximiliano Lugo didn’t manage to play until the end of that game due to a muscle injury and will miss out here. However, Joel Amoroso has overcome his muscle issues and is available.

Defensa y Justicia managed to climb into a Copa Sudamericana spot last Sunday after beating Atletico Tucuman – who hadn’t lost at home this season at that point – 1-0 on the road. Ciro Rius’ strike allowed Juan Pablo Vojvoda’s men to make it ten points from the last 12 available. As a result, the team have now reached 28 points overall. At home, Defensa have claimed four victories in their last five games, losing only to Velez Sarsfield in week 13. The side visited Colombia’s America in the return leg of the Copa Sudamericana’s first round on Thursday and registered a 3-0 win. As a result, they have advanced to the next round of the competition.
Belgrano will have been disappointed after their 2-2 home draw against Patronato last time out as they wasted a 2-0 lead. However, El Pirata have been enjoying a remarkable campaign and have accumulated 29 points so far, which still allows them to dream of qualifying for the Copa Libertadores for the first time in the club’s history. Belgrano have won three of their last five away matches in the Superliga and have only lost at Godoy Cruz during that time.
This game is hard to predict as both teams are confident at the moment, but I think Defensa should be too strong at home and will claim three points as Belgrano are missing two of their key players.
Defensa y Justicia have scored 11 goals in their last five league matches at home – or 2.20 goals on average – while Belgrano have netted only six strikes in their last five on away turf. Expect a 2-1 home win.
Defensa y Justicia won 1-0 at Belgrano in the teams’ last meeting in May last year, which ended their 16-match winless streak in this fixture across all competitions. This will be the first time in history the team will host Belgrano in Argentina’s top flight.
