MATCH PREVIEW

MAIN PREDICTION: HOME WIN

There was no celebrating last time out for DC United as they were blanked 2-0 in Texas by FC Dallas in league action. The visitors allowed goals in the sixth and 65th minutes and Luciano Acosta didn't help the DC United cause by receiving a red card in the 73rd minute. Acosta had come on as a substitute 16 minutes earlier for the 16-year-old Griffin Yow who started his first ever league game. The loss snapped a five-game unbeaten league streak for the side at four draws and a win. They remain at 31 points with a record of eight wins, seven draws and five losses and are still in decent position for an Eastern playoff spot, with only five points separating them from the Philadelphia Union at the top of the table.

What has gotten into the New England Revolution? They are the toast of the town at the moment as their 2-1 league victory away from home against the Colorado Rapids last week extended their league unbeaten streak to seven games at four wins and three draws. Perhaps new manager Bruce Arena should get some of the credit as the side has three wins and a draw since he took over. New England got goals from Teal Bunbury in the eighth minute with Juan Fernando Caicedo doubling the lead in the 52nd minute and Colorado spoiling the clean sheet in the 71st minute. The league match took over four hours to play due to delays for bad weather. New England now has 23 points as they continue to climb the ladder and edge closer to a top-seven playoff spot in the East.

DC United is at home and New England is red hot, but DC has lost to New England just once in league action since 2014. With Paul Arriola back for United from international duty I expect them to win a close league match.

SECOND PREDICTION: FIRST HALF HAD – DRAW

I expect this league game to be neck and neck until being decided in the second half. Combined, the teams have been level in 13 of 39 league games this season and I like the odds of a half-time draw.

HEAD TO HEAD

The teams played in late May in league action in New England and drew 1-1. Both teams have one win and one draw in their last three league meetings.
