MATCH PREVIEW

MAIN PREDICTION: HOME WIN

DC United broke out of their scoring slump with a solid 3-1 home league win over the Columbus Crew last weekend to halt a three-match winless skid on their own turf (one draw, two losses). DC were ahead 3-0 after an hour courtesy of goals from Luciano Acosta, Wayne Rooney (penalty kick) and Paul Arriola. Columbus scored a consolation goal and broke the clean sheet with an own goal by DC goalkeeper Bill Hamid in the 75th minute. The win gave DC 20 points on the season and enabled them to climb into a second place in the West. They have scored just 16 goals in 11 league games but conceded just 11. Their home record isn't as good as hoped though at three wins, a draw and two defeats in league action, with ten goals for and seven against.

Injury-depleted Sporting Kansas City were shut out 3-0 at home by Atlanta Utd in the league last weekend as their winless streak reached five league games at two defeats and three draws. They allowed goals by Atlanta in the 39th, 47th and 76th minutes and weren't really in the game at all. The league loss left Sporting with ten points from a pair of wins, four draws and three defeats in league action, with 19 goals for and 18 against, and they sit in eighth place in the West. They have one of the league's worst road records with just two points from two draws and two losses while being outscored 8-4.

Sporting Kansas City is sliding down the table and their injury problem isn't helping. They are winless on the road in league action and I'm not expecting them to leave DC United with anything but a defeat.

SECOND PREDICTION: HILO – LOW

None of the last five league meetings between these sides have featured more than two total goals. I’m expecting a low-scoring encounter.

HEAD TO HEAD

Sporting Kansas City won 1-0 at home in last year's league fixture. However, DC United has three wins, a loss and three draws in the past seven league meetings.
