The Columbus Crew will be missing Milton Valenzuela for the season while Harrison Afful and Waylon Francis are sidelined. Aboubacar Keita is on international duty and Hector Jimenez and Federico Higuain are questionable. Also, veteran goaltender Zack Steffen has played his last league game with the club as he is on international duty and then heads to English top-flight champions Manchester City on transfer.

Sporting Kansas City expects Jaylin Lindsey, Erik Hurtado, Rodney Wallace and Roger Espinoza to miss this league match while Matt Besler is questionable.

Columbus Crew

Suspended: None

Doubtful: Hector Jimenez (head), Federico Higuain (knee)

Injured/unavailable: Milton Valenzuela (knee), Harrison Afful (jaw), Aboubacar Keita (international duty), Waylon Francis (muscle strain)

Sporting Kansas City

Suspended: None

Doubtful: Matt Besler (hamstring), Johnny Russell (quadriceps)

Injured/unavailable: Jaylin Lindsey, Erik Hurtado (both knee); Rodney Wallace (hip), Roger Espinoza (leg)

The Columbus Crew managed to draw New York City 2-2 at home in their last league game at the beginning of this month, but they are still struggling this year. They have five wins, two draws and nine losses for 17 points in league action and are outside of the playoff places in the East, but they are just a pair of points back of Toronto FC and the final playoff spot in the division. The team has scored just 16 times in 16 league outings and have allowed 24 against. The Crew is on a four-game winless streak in the league with a draw and three defeats and have just one win in their past ten league matches with eight losses and a draw.

Sporting Kansas City is in decent good form at the moment with just one defeat in their last five league games, with three draws and a win, after playing to a 2-2 draw in Toronto a fortnight ago. It felt like a loss though as the side conceded the equalizer just before the final whistle. It Sporting's second straight away league draw after tying the Houston Dynamo 1-1 in their previous league match. When looking at the bigger picture though, Sporting has just a lone victory in their last 11 league games though (six draws, four losses) and three league wins on the season to go with seven draws and five losses.

Both teams have struggled in the league over the last two months, but with Sporting Kansas City still without a victory in the league on their travels I expect the Columbus Crew to take advantage with a win.

Sporting Kansas City has managed to score first in eight of 15 league games, including three on the road and both of their last two away league outings. I like the chances of the visitors taking the first lead.

Last season's league fixture ended in a 0-0 draw in Kansas City. The Columbus Crew has a lone victory in the last ten league meetings with six losses and three draws.
