FIFA World Cup -- Colombia VS Japan

Colombia: Few goals ( Recent Form: L W W D D )

Four years ago, Colombia won the hearts of neutral football fans, when the country reached the quarter finals of the 2014 World Cup with great football. An equalization of that performance is also now a possibility, since the absolute top countries are missing in group H. In addition, Los Cafeteros now have more quality than four years ago. For example, top striker Radamel Falcao is on the eve of his first World Cup, after he had to leave absent four years ago due to injuries. Together with playmaker James Rodriguez he has to pull the Colombian cart. Nevertheless, national coach Jose Pekerman will not be completely comfortable with it. For example, he had to bite his fingers in the South American World Cup qualifying until the final round and it turned out that a 1-1 tie to Peru was just enough for direct qualification. In particular, the lack of scoring power broke up yellow shirts with only 21 goals in eighteen World Cup qualifiers. For the time being, that problem does not seem to have come out of the world, as the Colombians did not let the net bulge in the last two warm-ups towards the World Cup against Australia (0-0) and Egypt (0-0). Pekerman recently switched from a 4-2-3-1 formation to a 4-4-2 system, but in the last friendly match against Australia he preferred 4-2-3-1, with Falcao as the deep striker. It is therefore plausible that Colombia will take on this formation against Japan, although players like Carlos Bacca and Luis Muriel are eager to assist Falcao at the point of attack.

Japan: The defense with veterans ( Recent Form: D L L L W )

Japan has a rather noisy run to the World Cup. The Asians simply qualified for the World Cup, but then national coach Vahid Halilhodzic paid a high price for the passing of vedettes like Shinji Kagawa, Shinji Okazaki and Keisuke Honda. Two months before the start of the World Cup, the Bosnian could pick up his bags and was replaced by Akira Nishino, the man who also took the lead in Japan's historic 1-0 victory over Brazil during the Olympic Games in 1996. Under Nishino the status of the vedettes has been restored, although the results are far from spectacular. Japan's Nishino lost her first two international matches from Ghana (0-2) and Switzerland (2-0), though the country managed to win Paraguay with a 4-2 victory during her dress rehearsal. There was not much cause for joy, however, as star player Okazaki had to be injured. The attack of the attacker now seems so serious that he threatens to miss the World Cup. With fifty goals in 113 international matches, Okazaki is the second-best scoring Japanese ever, although the goals with only two goals in 2016 and a goal in 2017 have dried up a bit. However, Nishino indicated that a player like Okazaki is 'irreplaceable'. Whether Okazaki will stay with the Japanese camp is unclear at the time of writing, but he will probably miss the first group match against Colombia.

After all, Colombia and Japan have met in the past 3 times. In previous meetings, Japan never won Colombia. The cherry blossom team won only one match against Colombia in the 2007 Kirin Cup. In the other two matches, Japan lost to Colombia. With statistics on the two teams, i think that the results of Colombia vs. Japan match will be 2-0 in favor of James Rodriguez and team mates.
