Brann’s Christian Eggen Rismark is the club’s only doubt. The defender is still troubled by sickness.

Kristiansund are without striker Flamur Kastrati and defender Henrik Gjesdal for this league game against the Bergen club; Aliou Coly is back from suspension.

Brann could only draw 1-1 at home to Stromsgodset in their last league outing. It was a match in which Godset defended resolutely and fully deserved the point for their endeavours. Brann’s only goal came courtesy of a second-half Petter Strand strike. New signing, former Viking man Veton Berisha, has struggled to make an impact so far, and club officials will be expecting a better showing from him soon. The Bergen club will be grateful for another league game and even a repeat of last season’s narrow 1-0 home win over Kristiansund would be welcome at this stage, having secured only one point so far from their first two league contests.

After their opening round 2-0 league defeat away at newcomers Viking, Kristiansund bounced back with an excellent 2-0 home win over Ronny Deila’s Valerenga at the weekend. Bendik Bye got the ball rolling with a goal on the stroke of half time and Kristoffer Hoven added a second with five minutes left to play. The club lost three and won only two of their last five away league games at the end of last season, and they will hope that that sequence won’t carry over into 2019. Bye will be key to their chances against Brann. The striker played in all 30 league matches last season, and finished top scorer with nine goals.

Brann are always a very difficult proposition in Bergen, with their home fans some of the loudest in the league. In addition, they lost just twice at home in the league last season – against Rosenborg and Molde, who both finish in the top two last year. I will predict a home win.

Brann edged this home league fixture 1-0 last season, thanks to a Bismar Acosta strike in injury time. I think a similarly narrow victory could play out here and predict a low-scoring outcome.

Kristiansund have won three and lost one of their last four league encounters against Brann, scoring eight times and conceding just twice in the process.
