Brann dominated a poor Start team in their last game away from home on Saturday, but they had to wait until the 75th minute before finding the breakthrough, with Steffen Lie Skalevik scrambling the ball home from close range. The match will perhaps be remembered for the sickening injury to Taijo Teniste in the first half: After jumping for the ball the Brann player landed heavily on his head. However, that win against Start further cemented the team’s place at the top of the league table. With eight wins, just one draw and 25 points they are simply flying right now. Rosenborg may just have a title contender this year.
Haugesund came from behind to beat Kristiansund’s stubborn resistance at home on Sunday. A 1-1 result at the interval turned into a 3-2 victory at full time, with Babajide Akintola, Frederik Gytkjaer and Torbjorn Kallevaag scoring the hosts’ goals. The 25-year-old Gytkjaer is the club’s top scorer with four strikes, and he is closely followed by Akintola on three. Much of the youthful energy in the team comes from both Akintola and Sondre Tronstad, with the duo perfectly complementing the veterans in the team, Alexander Stolas and Christian Grindheim.
Brann are on a seven-game winning streak at the moment and a nine-game unbeaten run in Eliteserien. Although third-placed Hausgesund have been impressing too, with three wins and a draw in their last four games, Brann’s record is difficult to look beyond. I will therefore predict a home win.
Brann have scored in every match they have played in this season and have opened the scoring in all but one. I don’t think it would be a big surprise if they found the net first in this game.
Brann completed the double over Haugesund last season in the form of a 3-2 win away and a 3-1 victory at home.
