Livescore | Match Prediction & Tips| Asian Handicap Odds|Line-ups & H2H Stats

Botafogo will see the return of centre back Joel Carli this weekend after their captain missed out on their last league match due to suspension.

Vasco da Gama won’t be able to count on midfielders Raul, who was booked last time out and will be suspended, and Marcos Junior, who came off the pitch with a calf injury.

Suspended: None

Doubtful: None

Injured/unavailable: Jonathan (groin), Rodrigo Pimpao (calf)

Vasco da Gama

Suspended: Raul

Doubtful: None

Injured/unavailable: Fernando Miguel (shoulder), Leandro Castan (knee); Breno, Vinicius Araujo (both groin); Ramon (hip), Marcos Junior (calf)

Botafogo were beaten 1-0 by leaders Palmeiras in the league last weekend. They had a few good chances and even had more ball possession throughout the league match, but they just couldn’t avoid being controlled by arguably the best team in the country right now. The winning goal came out in the second half from a penalty kick, meaning Botafogo were able to contain the visitors’ open play efforts for most of the league match. They really missed centre back Joel Carli as they were forced to make many fouls to stop the leaders. It was their second consecutive loss in the league and they have dropped to eleventh place with nine points as a result. The team visited Paraguayan side Sol de America for the second leg of their second round Copa Sudamericana tie in midweek, winning 4-0. Having won 5-0 on aggregate, they proceeded to the next round of the tournament.

Vasco da Gama finally provided a glimpse of decent football this season, having drawn 1-1 away at Fortaleza in the league. They invested in quick counter-attacks on the flanks, mostly through wingers Yago Pikachu and Rossi, and it paid off. After an uneventful first half, it was Yago Pikachu who put them ahead from the spot and saw them heading for a first league win this season. However, they couldn’t resist Fortaleza’s late pressure and ended up conceding a painful equaliser in the 89th minute to seal a draw. It wasn’t a bad result for them, having gathered their third point of the campaign, but it could have been a lot better as they are still rooted to the bottom of the table.

Botafogo did a great job containing the league leaders and only succumbed to a penalty, so it is fair to say they will have the upper hand here – especially considering the return of Joel Carli to their back four. In contrast, despite a slightly better performance last weekend, Vasco da Gama still haven’t tasted a league win this season and shouldn’t be able to clinch their first one here without two key midfielders either. I predict a home win.

All but one of Botafogo’s league games this season have ended with odd results on the scoresheets. I’m going to predict the same outcome here.

Botafogo defeated Vasco da Gama 2-1 away from home in the league last season before drawing their home league fixture 1-1.
