Bolton welcome Craig Noone, David Wheater and Jason Lowe back from suspension but the injured Yanic Wildschut and Ben Alnwick are unavailable. Meanwhile, Stephen Ireland could also miss out.

Sheff Wednesday’s Achraf Lazaar is doubtful. The club will definitely be without the injured Matthew Penney, Kieran Lee, Gary Hooper, Joshua Onomah, Fernando Forestieri, Lucas Joao, Steven Fletcher and Almen Abdi.

Doubtful: Stephen Ireland (calf)

Despite registering a precious three points at home against Millwall in a 2-1 league victory at the weekend, Bolton have the second worst home record in the English second division, accumulating a mere 16 league points at the University of Stadium so far. Along the way, Phil Parkinson’s side have been beaten ten times on their own patch, winning four and drawing four, whilst scoring just 12 home goals - the lowest in the league. The Trotters are currently second from bottom and five points from safety.

Sheff Wednesday have been in top-top shape under Steve Bruce so far, winning three and drawing five of last eight league fixtures. Last week, the Owls held rivals Sheff Utd to a 0-0 draw at Hillsborough, which they followed up with a 1-1 draw at Derby at the weekend. Reaching the playoffs may be a tall order this term, especially given Sheff Wednesday’s lengthy list of injuries, but they will fancy their chances under Bruce next season.

Overall, Bolton have been abysmal at the University of Bolton Stadium this season, and I can see Phil Parkinson’s men crashing to another damaging home defeat in midweek. My money is going on the Sheff Wednesday win.

Sheff Wednesday have been solid at the back under their new boss, keeping five clean sheets in eight league games. However, they have not been particularly proficient up front lately, scoring only once on average in their last three league fixtures. Back a 1-0 win for the away side here.

Sheff Wednesday’s 1-0 win over Bolton at Hillsborough in the reverse league match earlier in the season was their first triumph in this head-to-head in three attempts, having lost once and drawn once in league action.
