Since the turn of the year, Blackburn have been in very poor form. Having kicked off 2019 with four successive league wins, things have gone rapidly downhill for Tony Mowbray’s men, who have secured just one point from their last seven league fixtures. Rovers lost 1-0 against in-form Preston at Ewood Park at the weekend, suffering their sixth league defeat this year. Still, on the whole, Blackburn have had a solid first season back in England’s second tier following promotion from the third division last term. They are currently in 17th with a 11-point lead over the bottom three.

Wigan, who were in the third division with Blackburn last season, have struggled on the road this term, picking up a mere six points on their travels all season, which makes them the worst away side in the league. They continued in that vein at Reading last time out where they lost 3-2 despite finding themselves in the lead twice, conceding the Royals’ final two goals very late in the league contest. Sitting only three points above 22nd-placed Rotherham, Paul Cook’s men still have plenty of work to do in the race for survival.

Blackburn have been in poor shape lately, but I fancy Rovers to pick up a precious three points at Ewood Park in midweek.

Blackburn’s last three wins have all come with clean sheets, seeing off Millwall, Ipswich (both 2-0) and Hull City (3-0). Wigan have lost their last two league fixtures by one goal. Although this one could be tight, I can see the hosts keeping their guests at bay. Therefore, put some money on a 1-0 victory for Blackburn.

Both league meetings ended in draws last season, but Wigan picked up an impressive 3-1 win when the pair met at the DW Stadium in the reverse league fixture back in November.
