Bahia failed to win once again on Sunday and they now have one last chance to jump out of the relegation zone before the World Cup break. Despite going into their weekend game with the motivation to win, they were trailing 3-2 at home against Botafogo until the very last minute of stoppage time when Augustin Allione’s late header equalled the scoreline.

Corinthians’ bad form became apparent on Saturday when they were unable to score at home against lowly Vitoria, leaving the pitch with only a goalless draw. The match had a lot of action but neither teams looked aggressive or outstanding. However, with the reigning champions boasting the better squad and playing on their own turf where they are still unbeaten, a win was expected.

Corinthians have now failed to win their last three league games (two draws, one defeat) and have dropped to ninth place with 16 points, meaning they are really nowhere near the form that won them this year’s Campeonato Paulista in early April. That is why I think they won’t be able to beat Bahia here either. Despite having won only twice at home this season, the hosts have scored eight goals across their last four home games, so I believe they can keep this record going and defeat this week’s visitors.

Just one of Corinthians' last nine matches has finished with more than two total goals scored. The team have the league’s fourth best defense, with only eight goals conceded, and although I'm backing Bahia to win I don't think they will do so by a large margin. I predict a low amount of total goals.

Bahia and Corinthians both won their encounters at home last season, which have also been their only meetings over the past three and a half years.
