MATCH PREVIEW

MAIN PREDICTION: DRAW

Portland were shut out 1-0 at home by DC United last Sunday and then hosted the New York Red Bulls in midweek. After 90 minutes they left the pitch with a 2-0 defeat against the Red Bulls and now have four wins, no draw and five losses in their past nine league clashes. They have 43 points and with four regular-season games remaining still have a decent chance of locking down a top-seven playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Minnesota Utd bounced back from their 2-0 midweek loss in Houston to down Real Salt Lake 3-1 at home last weekend. They fell behind after 17 minutes but Darwin Quintero scored in the 20th and 51st minutes to take the lead and Ethan Finlay added some insurance with seven minutes remaining. Minnesota passed Real in the Western Conference and sit in third place but with four league games left are within striking range for the seventh-place team.

Portland has been mediocre at home lately while Minnesota is one of the league's better road teams. I expect a draw.

SECOND PREDICTION: FIRST TEAM TO SCORE – MINNESOTA UTD

Minnesota has scored first in 16 of their league contests and I like their chances of doing so in Portland.

HEAD TO HEAD

Minnesota won 2-1 at home in the U.S. Open Cup in August and 1-0 at home in the league a few days earlier.
