Lille: Fight for last chance ( Recent Form: W D L D L )

For Lille, the upcoming Champions League match against Valencia is a real final. The French lost their first two group matches against Ajax (3-0) and Chelsea (1-2) respectively and must therefore achieve a positive result on Wednesday evening in their own Stade Pierre-Mauroy in order to increase the chances of hibernating in the Champions League or possibly the Europa League. to keep alive. The prospects for Lille are therefore not particularly favorable, as coach Christophe Galtier's team is no longer a shadow of the team that finished second in Ligue 1 last season. Les Dogues won only one of their last seven official games, with the 2 -1 last weekend's defeat at Toulouse as the most recent low point. The only bright spot is the young Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, who, partly thanks to his seven goals in ten league matches, was named the best player of September in the highest division of France. However, the rest of the team does not exactly appeal to the imagination, also because key players such as Timothy Weah and Renato Sanches are in the rag basket.

Valencia: Must take points ( Recent Form: D W L W D )

In the meantime, peace has somewhat returned to Valencia. After the surprising resignation of success coach Marcelino, the board and the new coach Albert Celades received a flood of criticism, but thanks to some nice results, the storm in Mestalla has subsided again. The club from the orange city has in its own country - partly thanks to the great 1-1 draw last weekend at Atletico Madrid - the subtop again in sight, and also has excellent papers for the wintering in the Champions League. In the first group match, Valencia managed to stunt immediately by winning 0-1 at Chelsea, although two weeks later the Spaniards had no chance in the shocking 0-3 defeat against Ajax. Valencia will have to take points on Wednesday evening to keep Chelsea at a distance in group H. Yet the leak is certainly not yet at the top in Valencia. Although the Spaniards generally give away few opportunities, they also have great difficulty scoring with only fourteen goals in eleven official games. Rodrigo Moreno, attack leader, helped Spain last week with a late equalizer to visit Norway (1-1), but on behalf of his club in ten appearances this season he does not go beyond a meager goal. The hope of the fans on Wednesday evening is therefore mainly based on the Uruguayan summer acquisition Maxi Gomez, who does quite well with four goals.

After all, I expect a nervous game between two teams that will mainly play not to lose. Lille should actually win, but will be very happy with a point given its bad shape. Valencia would remain in second place for a draw in group H, at least as long as Chelsea does not know how to win at Ajax. I therefore expect a boring game in which Valencia will dictate the game without taking great risks. I therefore put some money on under 2.5 goals.
