UEFA Champions League -- Benfica VS Lyon

Benfica: Must win ( Recent Form: W D W L W )

Benfica started the group phase of this edition of the Champions League very badly. After two matches, As Aguias are still empty-handed. In this Group G, where the real top opponents are missing, it can safely be called a disappointment. In the previous game, Benfica proved unable to cope with Zenit Saint Petersburg. The club from Lisbon defended several times in a very weak way, which allowed the Russians to take the game fairly easily (3-1). Benfica's poor start in this group phase fits into a larger pattern. The Portguese lost no less than twelve of their last fifteen group matches in the billiard ball. Last weekend Benfica came into action for the Portuguese cup. Coach Bruno Lage saw his team win 0-4 from the small Cova Piedade. The trainer chose not to give his entire team a rest. Many regular basic players were kicking off.

Olympique Lyon: Two games without scoring against weak teams ( Recent Form: D L W L D )

Olympique Lyonnais is in a much better position after two group matches. After a 1-1 draw in the home match against Zenit St. Petersburg, the away match against RB Leipzig was scheduled three weeks ago. Olympique Lyon did not start as a favorite in that competition. Memphis Depay and his teammates nevertheless took the three points. Les Gones benefited from inattentive defenses on the German side. A surprising 0-2 victory was recorded in Leipzig. That victory did not ultimately provide enough credit for trainer Sylvinho. In the Ligue 1, the performance of Lyon has been disastrous so far. After the 1-0 defeat in the derby against AS Saint-Etienne, the curtain fell for the Brazilian trainer. His successor is the experienced Rudi Garcia, the former coach of OSC Lille, AS Roma and Olympique Marseille, among others. Garcia started his new job last weekend in the game against Dijon with a 0-0 tie. Depay had to skip that game due to an injury. For the Wednesday game he has a question mark behind his name, although the attacker is in the selection.

After all, ranked No. 2 in Group G is an acceptable achievement but with the same team strength, coach Rudi Garcia and his teachers are not allowed to make any mistakes if they do not want to pay dearly. Coming to Benfica's pitch is certainly not an easy challenge although the home team has lost the first two matches, but with a good performance in the Champions League, Lyon will likely be the winners.
